Carving Emotion and Individuality
. .
Terry Kramer of Salem, Oregon has created a massive body of work. While his passion centers on Indian head busts his work spans a wide variety of wood carving styles and includes stone. He creates knives and weapons from obsidian (flint) using ancient knapping techniques.
Now in his 80’s, Terry will share the essence of his philosophy, story, techniques, and examples. He hammers on the importance of using all aspects of light when carving. He goes beyond the obvious and encourages us to embrace the variety of light angles, intensities, and colors to bring life and energy to our carvings.
While on a trip to Italy, he was moved by the work of Italian renaissance artist Donatello whose sculptures are famous for being lifelike and expressing emotion and individuality. Terry’s goal has been to carve these same characteristics. With over a thousand Indian head busts, no two are the same and some ooze emotion and life.
Terry will be with us live, and we’ll have video clips and photos of some of his work.
